Some of the firm’s most celebrated bow makers of the past were artists such as James Tubbs, Samuel Allen and William Charles Retford.

Alfred Hill instituted an established style for the firm’s bows based on the Tourte violin bow and Voirin Cellobow, uniting individual makers work into a distinctly British product of uniformly high-quality.

Inheriting the finest legacy of the French school, Hills created their own style that defines the English tradition of bow making to this day.

The current bow workshop continues to make bows with the original templates, tools, and materials that were in use by the notable Hill makers from the beginning of the 20th Century.
